As diners enter the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, for the 5:30 pm public supper Saturday, June 7, they are likely to use their sense of smell first and notice the wonderful aroma from the baking beans, bubbling casseroles and brewing coffee.

Using the sense of sight, they will see the long tables all set, and the home baked pies with their jewel tones just waiting to be selected even before a seat is chosen.  Next to be seen are the bright salads and main dishes waiting to be served.  The supper is not all about food: diners will also see friends and neighbors as well as strangers, all smiling and apparently enjoying themselves.

Listening with their ears, they can hear the conversation and laughter rising as the crown assembles.  They will also listen to the "groaner" joke that precedes grace before dining.

A sense of touch is used to pass the food and scoop up servings onto their own plates.  Then, the sense of taste is brought into action as the eating begins and the taste buds send out pleasure with each mouthful.

The public is cordially invited to the public supper, at a cost of $8 per adult and $5 per child under age 13.  For information please call 236-4829.
