Ash Wednesday falls on March 5 this year, and following tradition, the Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Rockland and and the John Street United Methodist Church of Camden will join together to recognize this important day in the church calendar.  The public is welcome to attend this year’s service hosted by the John Street Church, 98 John Street, Camden at 7 pm.  The Reverend Linda Campbell-Marshall and Pastor Peg Moser will lead the congregation.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a solemn 6 week period of prayer and self-denial that precedes the glory of Easter.  The practice of burning palm fronds from the previous year’s Palm Sunday provides ashes that will be administered by the ministers in the form of a cross on the foreheads of worshippers as a sign of repentance.  Along with scripture and music, the service will include a dramatic reading by lay persons, “The Path to Maturity”

All are welcome
