Call for ‘Artists’ Choice’ juried show

Oct 09, 2017

Damariscotta — River Arts invites artists throughout Maine to submit artwork for jurying in its upcoming exhibition, “Artists’ Choice.” Artists can submit up to three works in any medium including sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics and fine craft — representational or abstract.

Work can be delivered anytime during gallery hours until the deadline, Saturday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. The exhibition will hang through Nov. 24, with an opening reception Friday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The juror for this show is Diana “Dinny” Kerr of East Boothbay. Kerr grew up in Massachusetts and spent her summers on the coast of Maine.  After spending years in Boston managing an art gallery and overseeing the corporate art program, she moved here permanently. She continued her interests in art where she managed the contemporary gallery at Barridoff galleries in Portland. Her experience in gallery work continued as an art consultant at the Gallery House in Nobleboro in 1991, followed by eight years as a curator and co-manager of the Firehouse Gallery in Damariscotta.

For the past nine years, Kerr has been the administrative assistant to the director of Gleason Fine Arts in Boothbay Harbor, directing the sales of contemporary art. With more than 40 years experience in curating and administration of sales in several art galleries, Kerr has also been involved with nonprofit organizations including River Arts, directing the workshops and educational programs for two years.

In addition to her gallery posts, Kerr is a partner in Kerr/Jones Design, designing and selling unique creations. Her passions have taken her from her studio in East Boothbay to the souks of Morocco, the flea markets in Paris and to the highland villages of Guatemala and Mexico, always in search of true craftsmanship in a mass-produced world.

Entry forms are available online and at the gallery, 241 Route 1, when submitting. All work entered must be for sale. For more details about the entry process, visit riverartsme.org/calls-to-artists. Queries and requests may be directed to River Arts at 563-1507 or by email at info@riverartsme.org. River Arts is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
