Local jazz, Big Easy visit at Rock City

Khalif Neville

Rockland — Rock City Café, 316 Main St., will present By the Bay Trio with vocalist Cindy Millar Friday, Sept. 22; and Khalif Neville Saturday, Sept. 23. The music runs from 7 to 9 p.m. both nights.

By the Bay Trio plays both vocal and instrumental arrangements of jazz classics from Hollywood and Broadway; by many composers from the Golden Age of American Song; and numerous Latin rhythm standards.  The trio features Dennis Gurgul of Tenants Harbor on percussion; Shaun Bolduc of Pittston on bass; and Dick White of Warren on guitar. Vocalist Millar lives in Washington.

Neville, son of famed New Orleans jazz musician Charles Neville, has come into his musical own with his newest release, “Discerning the Transmudance.” He throws a new twist on some classics; and showcases his compositional skills with compelling originals.

Food is available until closing. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123 or find it on Facebook.
