Rockland — A Rockland-area school bus and a passenger car collided Friday morning, Dec. 1, near Oceanside High School.

There were no injuries to students, nor to the drivers of the two vehicles.

The crash occurred at about 7 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Chestnut Street. The Regional School Unit 13 bus was driving north on Broadway when a 1988 Cadillac being driven by William Fearing, 63, of Rockland stopped at the stop sign but then pulled into the path of the bus, according to Rockland Deputy Police Chief Chris Young.

Fire and emergency medical services crews responded and checked on the 16 students on the bus as well as the drivers. The bus was driven by Kevin Moholland, 29, of Waldoboro.

Fire Chief Christopher Whytock said when he asked students if any of them had cellphones to call their parents, all of them raised their hands.

The car was a total loss, Young said.

The crash occurred a few hundred yards from the high school.

Traffic had to be temporarily rerouted around the crash.

Regional School Unit 13 Business Manager Peter Orne said Friday afternoon that the bus had substantial damage but it was able to be driven from the crash scene. The damage was discovered after it was inspected.
