Broncos stampede against Panthers, gallop to lopsided wins

Creamer tosses in 19 points, McKenney 15, Brown 10 for Medomak Valley boys

The Medomak Valley basketball teams got a look up the Class A North ladder at Hampden Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 29, as the Panthers remained on the rungs below the Broncos by night’s end.

The Broncos — who rank second in their regions — emerged victorious as the girls posted a 60-26 win in Hampden and boys an 87-64 triumph in Waldoboro in late-season high school court action.

Girls

Hampden Academy 60, Medomak Valley 26

At Hampden Jan. 29, the Broncos held the Panthers to a single first-quarter field goal and prevailed by a lopsided score. Hampden Academy led 16-2, 32-6 and 47-16 at the quarter breaks.

Aubrey Schaeffer scored seven points for Medomak Valley, while Sadie Cohen added six; Abby Lash and Lydia Simmons, five; Zaniah Puchalski, two; and Alyssa Creamer, one.

Bailey Donovan and Camryn Bouchard scored 12 points for Hampden Academy, while Megan Deans added 11; Alydia Brillant, six; Isabelle Soucy, five; Camryn Neal and Lucy Knight, four; Amelia McLaughlin, three; Sydney Hodgdon, two; and Zara Misler, one.

The Panthers were 4-of-8 (50 percent) from the foul line, while the Broncos were 14-of-20 (70 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Medomak Valley (9-6, 45.8025 points) is sixth, while Skowhegan (15-0, 137.0370 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

Boys

Hampden Academy 87, Medomak Valley 64

At Waldoboro Jan. 29, the Panthers could not keep pace with the topnotch Broncos and fell by 23 points. Hampden Academy led 23-17, 42-25 and 65-47 at the quarter breaks.

Ryan Creamer scored 19 points for the Panthers, while Pat McKenney added 15; Trevor Brown, 10; Jake Bickmore, six; Gabe Allaire, four; and Parker Morrison, Chris Bowman, Brandon Starr, Carson Murphy and Alec Coughlin, two.

Kory Winch netted 26 points for the Broncos, while Bryce Lausier added 20; Michael Raye, 13; Ross Webb, 11; Kent Oliver, 10; and Andy Raye, seven.

Medomak Valley was 10-of-14 (71 percent) from the foul line, while Hampden Academy was 18-of-20 (90 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Medomak Valley (10-5, 23.9753 points) is ninth, while Cony of Augusta (11-4, 87.1605 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
