Broken Egg finds a new perch at same location

Rockland — A Main Street restaurant that closed temporarily in March over a name dispute with a national chain has reopened.

The Daily Perch Cafe opened May 13 at 421 Main St.

The restaurant will be open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays through Tuesdays. The cafe will be closed on Wednesdays.

Formerly the Broken Egg, owner Heather Symmt closed temporarily two months ago when she received a letter from a law firm representing the restaurant chain Another Broken Egg, which is based in the Florida panhandle city of Destin.

The Rockland Broken Egg opened in May 2016. Symmt moved to the area from Texas a month before that after working the previous 20 years as an accountant.

Symmt said May 13 that she added some new items to the menu, like lemon curd raspberry sourdough pancakes.

"We kept all of our best sellers, like carrot cake pancakes and banana bread French toast," she said.

Symmt said it took a lot of back-and-forth to finally settle on the new name.

"I brainstormed with a friend of mine that also created the menu and logo. Once I narrowed it down, I ran three names by my attorney and settled on the Daily Perch Cafe," she said.

The Daily Perch Cafe has a Facebook page. Symmt said she is still working on the website and to-go menus.
