Botkin studio to feature 'his' and 'hers' exhibits

Sep 06, 2017
“Rising Moon” is a glass and granite sculpture by Kay Botkin.

St. George — Ed and Kay Botkin’s Studio will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, as part of the St. George Business Association's 2017 Touring Peninsula Art event. Botkin’s Studio is at 6 Glenmere Road, Tenants Harbor.

Kay Botkin’s glass-and-granite sculptures will be featured in a garden setting. They range in size from 1 to 4 feet tall and can be used outdoors as well as in the home. She has created a number of unique sculptures using her experience in design and as a stained-glass artist. Recent sculptures utilize “Dalle de Virre” glass (about an inch thick) inserted in granite sculptures. Others incorporate iridized textured glass and/or fused glass pieces she has fired in a kiln.

Visitors will also see how the sculptures are made. The stone-cutting and forming cannot be demonstrated directly; however, the various tools used to make these sculptures will be on display.

Ed Botkin’s realistic oil paintings depicting Midcoast Maine will be presented in his studio. These include a number of his recent “plein air” paintings, as well as many paintings done in the studio.
