Jul 05, 2018
The Barn Swallow Book Shop, in Rockport, will offer free art classes for children from July 14 to Oct. 6.

Rockport — The Barn Swallow Book Shop, at 166 Russell Ave., Rockport announces a summer series of free art classes for children, every Saturday from July 14 to Oct. 6. The classes will be held in the barn of the bookshop from 10 a.m. to noon. They will be taught by sculptress and art teacher, Avis Turner and painter and art teacher, Susan Beebe. Both artists are most recently of Rockland’s Farnsworth Museum educational program.

The classes will cover many forms and do not require any prior experience or supplies. To kick off the first art class on July 14, local author “Doc” Wallace will tell the story of his adoption of a blind kitten in Greece; and from 1 to 2 p.m., participants can listen and sing along with a local musician playing popular children’s songs. Refreshments of coffee and pastry will be provided to parents by Sea Folk’s, of Rockport.
