Book Club sees ‘The Light’

Sep 06, 2018

Thomaston — The Thomaston Intergenerational Book Club will discuss "The Light Between Oceans” by M.L. Stedman Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 2:30 p.m. in the main room of the library, located in the Thomaston Academy building on Main Street/Route 1.

The novel’s Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia after four harrowing years on the Western Front and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings his young, bold and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind: a boat has washed up onshore, carrying a dead man and a living baby. They claim her as their own … a decision that will haunt them.

The Intergenerational Book Club comprises men and women of all ages who come together the third Tuesday of every month to share opinions and ideas about the book selection. All are welcome. Thomaston residents who would like to attend but need a ride should call the library at 354-2453 a week before the discussion.

The IGBC selection for Oct. 16 is “Anne of Green Gables” by L. M. Montgomery; copies will be available at the library. For the complete 2018 list, visit thomaston.lib.me.us.
