Rockland — Wearing little more than red bodypaint, wigs and claws, two PETA protesters plan a demonstration to oppose the Maine Lobster Festival Wednesday, Aug. 2.

The demonstration will include protesters simulating being boiled alive in a giant pot with "Put Yourself in Their Place" written on it.

PETA supporters will also hold signs proclaiming, "Being Boiled Alive Hurts" and "Try to Relate. Keep Lobsters off the Plate."

The animal rights organization has long argued that the practice of putting live lobsters into boiling water is cruel and advocate a meat-free vegan diet.

The group also claims "Lobsters are intelligent and unique individuals who use complex signals to establish social relationships and take long-distance seasonal journeys, often traveling up to 100 miles in a year."

The protest is planned at noon Wednesday at the intersection of Main and Park streets.

In a similar protest last year, Mysti Lee of Chicago, painted all in red and wearing lobster claws but little else, emulated Maine's famous crustacean on a plate with to-scale cutlery, a garnish of cilantro and a side of butter across the street from the Maine Lobster Festival.

Kathrina Davidovich of Los Angeles helped organize the event.

Just a platform to display their exhibitionist tendencies under the guise of a "worthy cause".

From this picture, among other things, her crusher claw is a bit tiny and lessens the impact of a nice robust lobster with giant claws and just waiting to be tasted.

Perhaps she should stay in Chicago and try to keep humans from killing one another!
