Black and White shines in ‘High Noon’

Gary Cooper heads to the famous showdown in “High Noon,” marshal’s star still in place but not for long.

Belfast — The Black and White-themed September series of Belfast Free Library’s Friday Night Flix concludes Sept. 22 at 7 pm. in the Abbott Room of the library, 106 High St.

On screen will be “High Noon” (1952, USA), the ultimate tale of good guy vs. bad. Years ago, outlaw Frank Miller was sent to prison by Will Kane, the town marshal — who has just got married and hung up his guns. However, the just-released Miller (Ian MacDonald) and his gang are arriving on the noon train, bent on revenge.

Instead of fleeing, Kane, played by Gary Cooper, puts his badge back on to take on the gang. But when he seeks the help of the townspeople he protected for so many years, they turn their backs on him … and how will his new Quaker bride (Grace Kelly) react? All will be revealed when the bell peals 12 in this Stanley Kramer classic.
