Beat the winter blues, help support shelter animals

Feb 28, 2013

Our pet picks of the week are Timer and Fresca. Timer is a very sweet old fella. This senior boy would love to sit on your lap and keep you company, listen to your stories of how your day went; what went wrong, what went right. He’s been around the block a time or two so don’t worry, he won’t judge. He’s a patient and loving old soul looking for a home.

Fresca is a little fire cracker of a dog. At 1-and-a-half years old, this brindle coated mix has a lot of energy and is stronger than her small frame would suggest. She is particular about the dogs she plays with so would benefit from being the only dog in the home. If you’re looking for an active dog with an effervescent personality come meet Fresca.

Beat the winter blues at our 4th Annual Tropical Getaway this weekend, Saturday, March 2, featuring Midcoast Maine's steel drum band Steelin' Thunder. Join us at the Elks Club in Rockland from 5 to 9 p.m. for an evening of great music, food and fun. Tickets are just $10 with proceeds going to help the animals in our care. Thank you to our generous sponsors: lead sponsors Horch Roofing, and Thomaston Place Auction Galleries and sponsor Kennebec Pharmacy and Home Care. See you there in your best tropical garb (optional but encouraged).

Save the date: On Saturday, March 16, the Craignair Inn and Restaurant in Spruce Head is holding a benefit brunch with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the shelter. The brunch starts at 11 a.m. Tickets are $15. We'll be there, hope you will too.

The Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County is open Mondays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information visit our website at hskcme.org and like us on Facebook.

Wish list. Dry dog food, peanut butter, 6-inch paper plates, hot dogs, string cheese, rice, canned cat food, laundry detergent, large garbage bags.
