Rockport — The beat goes on for the top-ranked Camden Hills boys tennis team in its first playoff match of the campaign as the unbeaten Windjammers quickly sailed past No. 4 Mount Blue of Farmington 5-0 on Friday afternoon, June 1 in the Class A North semifinals.

The Windjammers, the two-time defending Class B state champions in their first season toiling in Class A, sailed through all three singles matches, while the two doubles matches on the afternoon proved a bit more competitive, before the hosts dispatched the visitors to secure the victory.

With the win, Camden Hills (13-0) moves on to the Class A North regional championship game, where it will face No. 2 Lewiston (11-3) on Wednesday, June 6 at 1 p.m. at Colby College in Waterville. This date has changed from the previous June 5 schedule due to the forecast of rain

Mount Blue, which defeated No. 5 Bangor (7-6) in the quarterfinals, saw its season conclude at 8-6.

The Windjammers defeated Lewiston 5-0 on May 5 in Rockport and 4-1 on May 24 in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A championship.

The Windjammers — who, with Friday’s win, saw its unbeaten regular-season and postseason streak swell to 34 matches — earned an automatic berth into the semifinals by virtue of their top overall seeding.

The individual results from Friday's match, with Camden Hills players listed, first, were: In singles, Cooper Russell beat Alden Thompson-Vought, 6-4, 6-1; Charlie O’Brien beat Joseph Crandall, 6-0, 6-3; and Noah Heidorn beat Chris Marshall, 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles, Henry Cooper and David Poutasse beat Ryan Haszko and Zachary Gunther, 7-6 (6), 6-2; and Trevor Iltis and Jack Lawrence beat Aubrey Hoes and Harrison Deng, 7-5, 6-2.

Iltis and Lawrence were first off the courts to give Camden Hills a 1-0 lead, while Heidorn and O’Brien followed suit moments later to make the match academic for the Windjammers.

Cooper and Poutasse had their hands full with Haszko and Gunther in the first set — while Camden Hills ultimately won in a tiebreaker — but rebounded nicely in the second set with a 6-2 win.

For Camden Hills, it is the second time in three days a tennis team from the school has eliminated a squad from Mount Blue from the playoffs, as the fourth-ranked Windjammer girls swung to a 5-0 quarterfinal win over the No. 5 Cougars on May 30 in Rockport.

The Camden Hills boys also beat Mount Blue 4-1 in two regular-season matches.
