New umpire classes, provided remotely due to pandemic, scheduled for MidcoastThe Midcoast Umpire Association of Maine (MUA) will provide training for new members or individuals looking to learn more about baseball or softball, beginning in March.
The association, which serves Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties, assists with providing professional, quality officiating to area baseball and softball teams, grades 7 to 12, as well as to youth amateur leagues, including Babe Ruth Baseball and Little League Baseball and Softball, said Chris Barstow of MUA.
Interested individuals can apply. Training and education are provided by veteran umpires who use hands-on, online, visual and written study resources.
Separate new member sessions for baseball and softball training will begin in March.
At this time, due to the pandemic, training will be provided remotely.
Those interested in this "challenging and rewarding opportunity," Barstow said, are encouraged to register online at midcoastumpires.com under the “Join Us” section, or email Barstow at crbarstow@gmail.com.
