Camden — Bail was set March 28 at $7,500 cash for a Camden man charged with aggravated trafficking of heroin.

Joseph Zak, 30,  was arrested at his Union Street home March 27 following a raid by Camden Police, Maine State Police, and Maine Drug Enforcement Agents, according to a Camden Police Department and Drug Enforcement Agency press release.

Authorities executed a search warrant following an investigation of Zak, who is accused of selling heroin from the Union Street area in Camden, said the release.

He is also charged with a count of unlawful trafficking of heroin.

Zak is accused of selling drugs within 1,000 feet of the Children's House Montessori School, said a criminal complaint filed against him.

During the investigation agents and officers found Zak was meeting heroin buyers near his residence, meeting with people in two or three different cars at a time.

Zak was arrested when he returned to Camden after purchasing heroin to resell. Agents observed him dealing to people on Union Street, and he was approached by officers and agents after one of the transactions and was taken into custody, said the release.

Also arrested was Kevin Defeo, 25, of Camden for possession of oxycodone. Defeo was parked on Union Street conducting a transaction with Zak. At the time of Defeo’s arrest, a 4-year-old child was in the back seat of the car. The child was turned over to the mother who was not involved, said the release.

Defeo's bail was set at $500 cash.

Agents seized about 3 grams of un-packaged heroin. A gram of heroin makes about 50 bags of heroin.

A bag of heroin sells for about $25 to $30 in Camden. Agents also found 10 bags of heroin, three ounces of marijuana, Suboxone strips, and about 20 oxycodone tablets. None of the prescription medication seized was prescribed to Zak. Agents also seized pre-made bags/folds for the heroin, scales and drug paraphernalia.

Cheyenne Cesarini-Yelverton, 21, of Thomaston was also arrested at the residence for violation of bail. Cesarini-Yelverton was on bail out of Rockland for trafficking heroin from a previous arrest by MDEA. She is also on bail out of Cumberland County for possession of heroin.

A motion to revoke Cesarini-Yelverton's bail was filed and she is currently held without bail at the Knox County Jail.
