Author talk, food tasting at Adas Yoshuron

Rockland — Louisa Shafia, author of the acclaimed cookbook “The New Persian Kitchen,” will speak about Persian food, with a focus on the food of the Jews of Iran, Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. at the Adas Yoshuron Synagogue, 50 Willow St.

The talk will be followed by a tasting buffet prepared by the synagogue’s Food in Jewish Culture group, based on recipes in Shafia’s book. Books will be available for sale. The program is free and open to the public.

“The New Persian Kitchen” won Food 52’s award for the best cookbook of the year in 2014. Her Silk Road cooking has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street, Journal, Bon Appetite and on National Public Radio.

Shafia has cooked at notable restaurants in San Francisco and New York including Millennium, Aquavit and Pure Food and Wine. She recently ended the seven-month run of her Persian street food pop-up, Lakh Lakh, which New York Magazine called “a Persian-tapas gateway into the ancient cuisine.” Her first cookbook, “Lucid Food: Cooking for an Eco-Conscious Life,” was a finalist for the International Association of Culinary Professionals award. Adas Yoshuron Synagogue is an unaffiliated, all-inclusive synagogue serving the Jewish community of Midcoast Maine since 1912.
