Art Social, classes, workshops at Art Loft

Sep 13, 2017
Wire-wrapped sea glass jewelry is the focus of the next Art Social at The Art Loft in Rockland.

Rockland — September is filled with art options at The Art Loft, the downtown nonprofit community art center at 385 Main St., Suite 9, lobby-level of the Thorndike building.

Friday, Sept. 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., illustrator Kim Nicoll will lead Under the Sea, an introduction to gouache. A water medium, so easy to clean up and quick to dry, gouache can be rewet, reworked and layered to create brilliant depth of color. Cost is $45, with all materials provided.

Saturday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m., The Art Loft hosts another Art Social, a chance to socialize while learning a new skill and coming away with something useful. Caitlin Meservey will lead attendees in making wire-wrapped sea glass jewelry. Snacks will be available, and BYOB, including wine or beer, is welcome. Cost is $35.

Tuesdays, Sept. 26 though Oct. 10, Deborah Stevenson will instruct Joy of Collage from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Students will explore the medium by doing a variety of exercises to get creative juices flowing. Creating pieces will flow through the territory of art basics such as composition, texture, abstraction and color vs. black and white, to name a few. This class is about having fun together in a group in a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere. Fee is $45.
