Rockland — There will be an opening art reception for two local artists during the Holiday Open House at Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and Art Gallery, 9 Water St., Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Carla Skinder of St. George, retired nurse, has photographed wildlife on every continent in the world. This exhibit will be thought-provoking, highlighting some of her favorite photos from around the world, and will be a revolving show. Tom Hardy of Lincolnville is an artist whose sculptures are inspired by nature and natural themes. Over the last two years, he has transitioned to doing wood relief sculpture, using sandblasting to reveal the true character of wood. This “wooden fingerprint,” unique to each piece of wood, presents a random beauty.

The visitor center and art gallery also are open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 594-0600, ext. 5.
