Rockland — The staff and board of The Apprenticeshop, 655 Main St., are hosting a thank you open house Jan. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. (snow date Feb. 7) to thank friends and locals for their steadfast and ongoing support. There will be live music and drink, wooden boats to look at, boatbuilders to converse with, and plenty of maritime-minded folks to meet.

Founded more than 42 years ago, The Apprenticeshop is more than a school of traditional maritime arts and seamanship. In the last year it launched a Pilot Gig, several Susan Skiffs, and most recently a Whitehall rowing boat . The Apprenticeshop is also a home to the Maritime Academy for local high schoolers, a homeport for several high school sailing teams, a thriving woodshop where a Dublin Bay 24 is currently under construction, and a winter waterfront home to hundreds of vessels.

Upcoming lectures include one on the life of a vessel pilot and life aboard a tall ship. Upcoming workshops include a toboggan-building class, a weekend learning traditional lofting skills, as well classes in navigation. And summer sailing registration is now open.
