AVS News

The next seniors to lunch will be Feb. 10 at 11:30 a.m. For more information call the school at 785-4504.

I had the opportunity to attend a drama presentation that the third- through fifth-graders put on last week. They did a wonderful job with the help of Beverly Mann. I really enjoyed seeing what each grade performed.

Appleton Village School is participating in a fundraiser called Pennies for Patients. Pennies for Patients is something to help find a cure for Leukemia and other blood cancers. We ask you to bring in spare change and other money to help find a way to stop blood cancer. Every student got a little yellow box to put his or her money in, plus every classroom also got a box to put money in. Please help the Leukemia Society find a cure for blood cancer. (The deadline is Feb. 7.)

This year’s AVS Spelling Bee was exceptionally exciting with several rounds ending in tight battles. We have many excellent spellers here in Appleton but the two who came out on top this year are: First Place - Sophie Dorsky and Second Place - August Gray. Both students will be representing our school at the County Bee Feb. 12. Good luck to both of them!

If you have a child who is 5 years old on or before Oct. 15, he/she is eligible to enroll in kindergarten this fall. Please contact the school office at 785-4504 to place that child’s name on our list. Registration doesn’t take place until the spring, but for budgeting purposes we are trying to determine the class size. Thank you for your help.

Appleton Library News

Please visit Appleton Library to view the artwork of the AVS kindergarten class now featured in the Main Library. The library wishes to thank Ms. Olsen for sharing her class project, and for encouraging her students and their families to visit our beautiful facility.

AVS students are actively reading for the 2014 America's Battle of the Books Event to be held in April at the school. Many book titles are available at Appleton Library and have been separately shelved for easy browsing. Please see a library attendant for questions, and be sure to check in with Ms. Vendetti and Ms. Scott at AVS to find out about after school events scheduled at Appleton Library in the coming weeks.

If you own a local business and wish for some free advertising, please contact Angie at Appleton Library and choose a month to advertise your business on our library's Business Board, located in the front foyer. Design and post your display for a one-month period at no charge, and consider offering a "Meet-My-Business Night" on one Thursday evening during open library hours to meet and greet patrons and spread the word about all your business has to offer. FMI, 785-5656.

This past weekend my father was injured while out cutting firewood. I want to thank Appleton Fire Department and Union Ambulance for the quick response and thorough care. They were very efficient in assessing the situation and providing the proper care for my father. My dad will make a full recovery. I just wanted to thank those that helped him in his time of need!
