Union — The second running of the demolition derby at the 148th annual Union Fair and 58th Maine Wild Blueberry Festival did not disappoint on Thursday, Aug. 24 as the stands — as well as the flatbeds of many trucks surrounding the arena — were jam-packed with smashing fans.

The number of cars were significantly smaller than Saturday night’s event, as 27 cars battled throughout the night in a handful of heats and features.

Six cars advanced to the 4-cylinder feature, and, in the end, it was Leavitt who finished first overall and Soule second.

In the 6-to-8 cylinder feature, Richard Charette of Morrill finished first and Andrew Holmes of Windsor second.
