Anderson, King RGC overall champs, Midcoast Cancer Classic huge success

Goeke records hole-in-one on 10th

Rockland — The following is news from the Rockland Golf Club:

On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11, champions were crowned overall and in a handful of flights. When the final putts had been holed, James Anderson for men and Tammy King for women were the overall champions.

With strong, consistent, 36-hole weekend play, James Anderson (74-74—148) and Tammy King (84-85—169) were the men's and women's overall titlists.

For men, in A Flight, Paul Spizzuoco (76-75—151) finished first gross and Skip Heald (68-70—138) first net, while in B Flight, Peter Stuart (83-76—159) finished first gross and Warren Marshall (70-66—136) first net.

For women, Nancy Carlson (88-92—180) finished first gross.

On Friday, Aug. 9, the Midcoast Cancer Classic held another successful tournament that raised thousands of dollars to help area residents battle the disease.

In the women's division, Helen Plourd, Jean Sweetser, Velma Whittier and Stephanie Rodrigue finished first gross 61; Nancy Carlson, Donni Witham, Bobbi Andrus and Sybil Davis, second gross 70; and Cindy Perkins, Pat Upham, Pat Cutler and Nancy Stewart, third gross 72.

In the men's division, Parker Hilchey, Garret Hilchey, Jason Vinal and Andrew McCaffery finished first gross 61; Bill Barbour, Bob Griffin, Joe Keller and Phil Lambert, second gross 64; and Rick Franklin, Paul Spizzuoco, Sam Strauss and Bryson Maddox, third gross 65.

In the mixed division, Kim Tweedie, Mike Bonzagni, James Anderson and Jason Willis finished first gross 57; James Raye, Jamie Boutin, Nikki Boutin and Jim Taylor, second gross 59; Peter Horch, Stacy Lytton, Alex Baeth and Dale Leighton, third gross 64; Casey O'Hara, Marshall Haynes, Janet Lombardo and Sally Stockman, fourth gross 65; John Spear, Leslie Spear, Dean Sasek and Kathy Macpherson, fifth gross 67; Kent Clark, Mark Fourie, Celeste Kichefski and Lee Woodward, sixth gross 68; and Bob Sommers, Diana Sommers, Tim Flanagan and Carol Burnham, seventh gross 69.

The pin winners were: Jason Willis, 8-4 on the fifth hole; Nancy Carlson, 16-9, and Bryson Maddox, 2-0, on the 10th; and Nancy Carlson, 14-9.5, and Marshall Haynes, 9-9, on the 18th.

The longest drives were hit by Jean Sweetser and Andrew Rodgers.

On Wednesday, Aug. 7, Virginia Goeke recorded a hole-in-one on the 137-yard, par-3 10th hole. She used a driver. The witnesses for the tee-shot were Mary Benner and Jessie Luttrell.
