The Camden Hills ski teams had no shortage of races of late — or strong showings, for that matter — as the Windjammers, along with an independent snow athlete from Islesboro, turned in stellar performances in recent days.

Most recently, the Windjammer Alpine ski team participated in a race at Black Mountain on Friday, Feb. 26, while the Nordic ski team participated in the New England Nordic Ski Association Maine Eastern Championships on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27-28.

In addition, on Wednesday, Feb. 24, the Nordic girls finished second and boys third in races at Maranacook High School of Readfield, while the Alpine girls finished second and boys third in home races at the Camden Snow Bowl.

Nordic

At the New England Nordic Ski Association Maine Eastern Championships on Feb. 27-28 at Quarry Road in Waterville, the Windjammers turned in stellar efforts.

Team scores for this event were not kept. It was the final races for high school skiers, who now turn their attention to the KVAC championships, with the classical races slated for Wednesday, March 3 and freestyle on Wednesday, March 10 at Titcomb Mountain.

"I am incredibly proud of how hard these athletes have worked this year, and the results they posted on both Saturday [boys] and Sunday [girls] is icing on the cake," said Camden Hills coach Saphrona Stetson. "The snow conditions were less than ideal Sunday afternoon, and the girls skied a difficult course with strength and enthusiasm.
