Against Eagles, Panther girls continue to soar, boys grounded on road

Medomak Valley girls enjoy six wins in first seven games

It has been a roller-coaster ride for the Medomak Valley basketball teams early in the season as the Panther girls have soared to thrilling heights and the young boys have experienced peaks and valleys.

While the boys have seen their track go up and down through seven regular-season high school court games, the girls ascension continued on Friday, Jan. 5 on the heels of contests against Erskine Academy of South China.

The Lincoln County squads garnered a split on the night as the Panther girls clawed to a 60-26 home win in Waldoboro, while the boys were downed 47-38 by the host Eagles in South China.

Girls basketball

Medomak Valley 60, Erskine Academy 26

At Waldoboro Jan. 5, the Panthers continued their hot start to the campaign with a lopsided win over the Eagles. Medomak Valley led 14-7, 26-18 and 41-22 at the quarter breaks.

Gabby DePatsy poured in 27 points for Medomak Valley, while Sadie Cohen added nine; Lydia Simmons, seven; Aubrey Schaeffer, four; Talia Willis and Paige Powell, three; Cheyenne Nash, Abby Lash and Hallie Kunesh, two; and Hattie Watmough, one.

Joanna Linscott scored eight points for Erskine Academy, while Alyssa Savage added six; Jordan Linscott, four; Liz Sugg, three; Bailey Cloutier and Hunter Hoague, two; and Lydia Boucher, one.

The Panthers were 9-of-16 (56 percent) from the foul line, while the Eagles were 5-of-11 (45 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Medomak Valley (6-1, 17.2222 points) is third, while Hampden Academy (8-1, 32.0988 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

Boys basketball

Erskine Academy 47, Medomak Valley 38

At South China Jan. 5, the Eagles soared past the visiting Panthers. Erskine Academy led 14-12, 23-19 and 32-29 at the quarter breaks.

Brent Stewart scored 10 points for Medomak Valley, while Alec Coughlin added nine; Ryan Creamer, seven; Gabe Allaire, six; Ethan Spear, three; Alex Clevette, two; and Chris Bowman, one. Allaire also had seven rebounds and Creamer four assists.

Jack Jowett had 15 points for Erskine Academy, while Braden Soule added 11; Austin Dunn, eight; Chandler Moore, six; Caden Turcotte, three; and Sage Hapgood-Belanger and Gavin Blanchard, two.

The Panthers were 12-of-23 (52 percent) from the foul line, while the Eagles were 5-of-9 (56 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Medomak Valley (4-3, 12.9012 points) is sixth, while Hampden Academy (8-1, 34.9383 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
