For the past few years, Camden Hills and Bangor have had notable — sometimes epic — soccer contests.

The girls teams have squared off in the hopes of advancing to the state Class A championship, as well as earning valuable Heal Points towards the playoffs.

The Rams and Windjammers again put their pitch athletic skills to the test on Thursday, Oct. 4 as both road squads earned victories.

The Bangor boys bested Camden Hills 5-2 in Rockport and the fast-sailing Windjammers girls beat the host Rams 7-1.

The following is a recap of both contests:

Girls soccer

Camden Hills 7, Bangor 1

At Bangor Oct. 4, the Windjammers used a strong second half to pull away from the Rams. Camden Hills is unbeaten in 43 straight games, dating to Sept. 20, 2016.

On Thursday, Camden Hills led 2-1 at halftime.

Kristina Kelley led all scorers with a hat trick for the Windjammers, scoring one goal in the first half and two in the second half. Kelly now has 24 hat tricks in her high school career, along with 99 goals.

Kassie Krul added two goals for Camden Hills, while Eliza Roy and Mary Kate Pons found the back of the net. Roy and Krul also added assists.

With the victory, the Windjammers have outscored opponents 79-6 through 11 games. Bangor has been one of only two teams to score on Camden Hills so far in the regular season, with five of those six goals.

On Thursday, Camden Hills outshot Bangor 23-5, while the Rams held the edge in corner kicks 5-3.

Izzy Lang and Alexandra Southworth combined to make 11 saves in net for the visitors, while Libby Fleming and Alexis LeBreton combined to stop six shots for the Rams.

"[The game] was really intense," said Camden Hills head coach Meredith Messer. "I think it was great for us to have to fight for 50 to 60 minutes in a game. I think we got a little out of shape in the first half, so we adjusted at halftime and had much better depth defensively to play their long ball as an attacking strategy. The girls did a really nice job of staying calm and being committed to our style of play, and found the seams and finished."

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Camden Hills (11-0, 106.8367 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

Boys soccer

Bangor 5, Camden Hills 2

At Rockport Oct. 4, the Rams bashed to a road victory.

Camden Hills Ben Owre and Michael Blackwell scored goals for the Windjammers.

Jacob Henry tallied a hat trick for the visitors, while Colin Waterman and Josh Sherwood chipped in with goals for the Rams.

Matt Kremin made nine saves in net for the Windjammers. Bangor's Austin Conway made 11 stops in goal.

Camden Hills held a 13-10 advantage in shots, while Bangor held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class A North, Camden Hills (4-6, 15.6122 points) is 10th, while Lewiston (10-0-1, 120.7143 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
