Rockland — The grand opening of Ada’s Kitchen at 449 Main St. was held Nov. 1.

The historic building has been renovated, from the flooring to the reclaimed wood below the bar top, by the father-daughter duo of Rick and Jennifer Rockwell of Main Street Markets, who have a vested interest in the revitalization of downtown Rockland, according to a news release.

The restaurant will stay open during the winter and caters to a local crowd with reasonably priced entrees and family-style portions, according to the news release.

Ada’s Kitchen’s Italian menu will include fresh, handmade pastas, pizza, salads, and a bar menu made with simple, locally sourced ingredients. Traditional-style pizzas will be offered in 10- and 16-inch sizes, plus an assortment of daily specials. This menu will be available for dining in as well as for takeout. Gluten-free pastas and pizzas are available as well.

Executing this vision from the new basement kitchen is Siddharta Rumma, a chef originally from Rome who helped to open Eataly Boston and worked with David Levi of Vinland in Portland. Rumma has devised a menu of authentic and accessible Italian food, the release says.

Ada’s patrons can choose between two experiences. Downstairs is a casual dining space, a grotto-like atmosphere with large booths, counter seating and a few tables for two within sight of the restaurant’s open kitchen. Downstairs Ada’s is also the spot to pick up takeout orders. It will become the late-night food destination in town as this kitchen stays open until at least 10 p.m.

Upstairs, on the Main Street level, the bar, lounge and dining area features 14 draft beers, cider and prosecco on tap, craft cocktails and snacks, plus a full menu. There will be drink and pizza slice specials for $5 during happy hour, weeknights from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

There is public parking in the lot behind Ada’s Kitchen in the Thorndike parking lot, providing access to the lower level entrance of the restaurant.

We went last night and it was incredible! Beautiful space, cheerful service, and simply delicious food. My eight year old ate nearly the entire pizza! I highly recommend it and see a lot of dinners, parties and happy hours in my future!
