Ace, forward tees course record highlight recent RGC play

Lyford records ace, Kannegiser sets forward tees course record

Rockland — A hole-in-one and a new forward tees course record were among the recent highlights in play at the Rockland Golf Club.

On Tuesday, Aug. 1, in the Women's Maine State Golf Association Senior Championships, Jody Lyford of Hermon Meadows recorded a hole-in-one on the 136-yard, par-3 fifth hole. She used a 7-wood for her tee shot.

The ace, the fourth of Lyford's career, was witnessed by Brenda Berry of Goose River and Nancy Hart of Hermon Meadows.

Additionally in the tournament, Kristin Kannegiser of Martindale set the course record of 69 from the forward tees.

The tournament pin winners were: Nancy McConnel, 14-2 on the fifth hole; Liz Coffin, 9-3 on the 10th and Marie Cates, 9-1 on the 18th.

On Thursday, Aug. 3 in RGC women's association play, a gross/net/putts event, in A Flight, Bobbi Andrus finished first gross 85; Sue Wootton and Kathy Harper, tied second gross 95; Kathy Sprowl, first net 68; and Jan Staples, second net 73. Bobbi Andrus finished with the fewest putts at 26

In B Flight, Kathy MacPherson finished first gross 97; Joanna Schleif, second gross 104; Joan Hall, first net 67; and Diane Bryant, second net 72. Diane Bryant finished with the fewest putts at 31.

The pin winners were; Bobbi Andrus, 15-8 on the fifth hole; Kathy MacPherson, 32-2 on the 10th; and Joan Hall, 31-7 on the 18th.

On Friday, Aug. 4, in Stan's Gang play, John Black, Bill Bachofner and Chandler Woodman finished first at +6 on the first nine holes; Rick Knight, Bob Cremonni, Dean Sasek and Earl Fargo, first at +10.5 on the second nine; and Ernie Benner, Steve Little and Mark Froman, first at +14 for all 18 holes.
