Jan 09, 2013

Union — Vose Library, 392 Common Road, will host two local authors this month. The events are free and open to the public; for more information, call 785-4733.

Katherine Silva will read from and discuss her work Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. Silva returns to Vose’s local author visit programs in celebration of her latest book, the second of the “Monstrum Chronicles.” In a world with a shadow realm inhabited by lilitu (vampire-like creatures), a tragic opera star, a teacher and a lilitu trying to reverse events in the past will discover how far they will go and what it really means to live.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m., Vose will host Kay Stephens, a Midcoast author whose co-authored cyberbullying prevention book, “Cyberslammed: Understand, Prevent, Combat and Transform The Most Common Cyberbullying Tactics,” launched in the fall under the sponsorship of Time Warner Cable. Stephens will deliver a one-hour presentation to parents and educators of teens in fifth to 12th grades. Touching on each of the six tactics in the book (including “sexting” and several forms of anonymous aggression), Stephens will demonstrate how to identify each tactic, along with prevention tips from cyberbullying experts, law enforcement, attorneys and educators. Books will be available for purchase; for more information, visit
