Waldoboro — The following is a synopsis of the 2012 Medomak Valley High School boys track-and-field team:

Coach/years coached current team: Jacob Newcomb, fourth season.

Last year's record: Finished fifth in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championships and 12th in the state Class B championships.

Roster: Seniors Kyle Baubonis (distance), Deering Genthner (sprints, long jump), Stefen Nicholls (sprints, hurdles), Brandon O'Donnell (middle distance), Lance Parker (javelin, long jump), Yannick Price-Prevot (throws), Ian Rixon (racewalk), Nelson Tolman (throws), Mason Vermillion (sprints, middle distance), Devin Widdecomb (sprints, throws) and Russell Wood (throws); juniors Nick Anderson (distance), Brent Barrows (sprints), Kyle Derby (throws), T.J. Harriman (throws, hurdles), Jonathan Hendrickson-Belloguet (sprints, triple jump), Ivan Johnson (distance, javelin), Boone Olson (middle distance, hurdles, javelin), Taylor Packard (distance), Devin Sproul (middle distance, high jump), Mark Sweet (sprints), Vinny Vannah (sprints) and Tyler Wilson (throws, hurdles); sophomores Michael Canfield (distance, racewalk), Alexander Casas (distance), Ben Rawstram (sprints, javelin), Cyril Miller (distance, throws), Ethan Morin (sprints, hurdles), Kenneth Sheimreif (sprints, jumps) and Hunter Galipeau (distance); and freshmen Gavin Felch (distance, long jump) and J.P. Lobley (sprints, jumps).

Graduation losses: Quinton Vannah, Mike Gilman and Joe Murphy.

Team goals: To be competitive at both the league and state championships, and to qualify individuals for the New England competition.

Strength: Balanced attack.

Top league opponents: Waterville, Belfast, Erskine Academy of South China and Maranacook of Readfield.

Outlook: The Panthers return a core group of athletes and look to be one of the top teams in the KVAC, led by Rixon, who won the state championship in the 1,600-meter racewalk last year. The team also looks to be solid in throwing, sprinting and relay events and likely will score high in their meets.
