Washington — The Strawberry Festival dates back to 1947 and is organized by the Ladies’ Guild. The most recent festival was held Saturday, July 7.

The event ran from noon to 3 p.m. at the Washington Fire Station and included live music with the local duo Gardenia, featuring vocalist Cindy Millar with Dick White on guitar. Crafts, activities and lunch concessions were offered. More than 126 quarts of strawberries were used and the selection of pies was the star of the show.

The “new” Ladies’ Guild is a second generation of women volunteering their time to run the event. The officers are: Mindy Gould, president; Amiee Gess, vice president; Stacie Mariano, treasurer; and Misty Darton, secretary.

The profits are donated to nonprofit organizations in town, including the food bank, historical society, fire department, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Seacoast Mission, the Masons, the Grange and the church.
