Rockport — The chill and snow did not keep runners and walkers from participating in the third annual LUV Me 5-kilometer road race Feb. 11. After a week of above average temperatures in the area, Saturday morning brought colder air and light snow flurries.

The event, held at the Penobscot Bay YMCA in mostly cloudy, 33-degree weather, was sponsored by Sphere Fitness in Rockland and Thorfin Expeditions in Lincolnville.

The first finisher was Jason Bigonia of Newcastle, who crossed the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes and 28 seconds. Thor Emery of Lincolnville, and owner of Thorfin Expeditions, finished second in 18:04.

The first female finisher was Maria Millard of Belfast at 19:18. She was fourth overall among 46 runners.

The scenic course of rolling hills, took runners and walkers past the belted Galloway cows and back to the YMCA through Rockport Village.
