Oceanside Middle School to close for two days due to COVID-19 case

Thomaston — Oceanside Middle School will remain closed for the entire upcoming week due to a case of COVID-19, the school announced Nov. 21.
"We were notified today that an individual at OMS had a recent positive COVID-19 test. We have followed all district, state, and CDC protocols regarding a positive case within our school. Given the protocols, we identified that there were no close contacts with that individual and others within our building, however, out of an abundance of caution, we have made the decision to move to virtual days for 11/23 and 11/24," the notice stated.
Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, school was only scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of the upcoming week.
"Our plan for a virtual setting will allow our blue and white cohorts to participate together in their learning over the two days. There will be a schedule to help support both parents and students over the two days. We understand that this could create some challenges for families. I hope you understand that this decision was made in the best interests of the entire OMS community.
"There will also be a letter from the superintendent that will be sent out today to the entire district. In closing, we wish all of you a safe holiday vacation and look forward to reopening our school after the Thanksgiving break," the notice concludes.
Oceanside Middle School serves students in Rockland, Thomaston, Owls Head, South Thomaston and Cushing.
