"Lobster Lady" honored as Grand Marshal for Sea Goddess Coronation

Aug 13, 2020
Virginia Oliver, also known as "The Lobster Lady," was honored as the 2020 Grand Marshal for the annual Sea Goddess Competition.

Rockland — At the 73rd Sea Goddess Coronation luncheon Aug. 8, visitors honored the 2020 Grand Marshal for the parade, who is Virginia Oliver (also known as “The Lobster Lady”).

Oliver recently celebrated her 100th Birthday and is the oldest licensed lobster fishing person in the state of Maine.

She began lobstering in 1928 when she was just eight years old, and still goes out three times a week with her son, who is in his 70s, depending on the weather. She has been invited to come on back next year and participate in the parade when things get back to normal and she said, “I’ll see you there.”

Her hand painted award was done by Jo Ann Hoppe of South Thomaston.
