Ferry Service announces reduced schedule

Mar 26, 2020

Augusta — The Maine State Ferry Service Wednesday announced reduced schedules for the islands it serves, except for Matinicus, which will see no change.

According to a statement from Ferry Service Manager Mark Higgins, MSFS has seen a "significant decrease" in ridership as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The reduction in service is in response to the drop in ridership and "to help minimize the spread of COVID-19." It begins March 28 and will be in effect until further notice.

Higgins goes on to say, "These reduced ridership levels will still allow passengers to practice social distancing even with fewer trips between the mainland (and) the six islands served by the Ferry Service. Our staffing levels remain largely unchanged. With a reduced schedule, our crews will be able to devote more time to sanitizing and maintaining our vessels."

The new schedule for trips between Islesboro and Lincolnville Beach will have ferries leaving the island daily at 7:30 a.m., except Sundays, 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and leaving Lincolnville Beach daily at 8 a.m., except Sundays, 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The schedule for trips between North Haven and Rockland will have ferries leaving the island daily at 7:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. and leaving Rockland daily at 9:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.

And the schedule for trips between Vinalhaven and Rockland will have ferries leaving that island daily at 7 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 2:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and also leaving Rockland daily at the same times.
