Rockland and Camden visitor centers of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce are temporarily closed until further notice, and staff has transitioned to working remotely.

The temporary closure was announced by Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Peaco March 18.

"Our first priority is the health and safety of our staff and volunteers,” Peaco said. “Additionally, we wanted to follow the guidance of our landlords in both locations. The Town of Camden has closed town offices, and the Maine Lighthouse Museum is delaying their season opening until at least April 1.”

Chamber staff are still working regular schedules and are available to the local community and prospective future visitors via phone and email, Peaco stated.

Peaco says has been in contact today with Camden Town Manager Audra Caler-Bell and Maine Lighthouse Museum Director Dot Black in Rockland to discuss the closures.

The town of Camden, which owns the building housing the Chamber office and visitor center on the Public Landing Camden, announced temporary closures to the public of all of its offices from March 17 to April 1.

“Obviously, our first priority is the health and safety of our staff and volunteers,” Peaco said. “Additionally, we wanted to follow the guidance of our landlords in both locations. The Town of Camden has closed town offices, and the Maine Lighthouse Museum is delaying their season opening until at least April 1.”

Peaco also noted that the Maine Tourism Association has announced today the closure of all Maine State Visitor Information Centers.

The Penobscot Bay Chamber of Commerce has a new page on its website to share information about coronavirus and resources for businesses. In addition, information on local businesses that are closing, changing their times or operating models in response to the pandemic is also posted. The page can be viewed at www.camdenrockland.com/news/coronavirus.
