The number of seasonal influenza cases in Knox County jumped sharply during the past week

The 40 cases is a sharp increase from 26 the previous week.

This brings the total number of cases for the season to 272 in Knox County.

One person was hospitalized last week in Knox County, bringing the hospitalization total to four for the season.

Lincoln County had 20 cases last week, raising the number for the season to 217. One person from Lincoln County was hospitalized last week.

Waldo County had 11 cases last week, bringing its season total to 225. One person was hospitalized last week.

Statewide, flu cases declined from 821 to 722, bringing the season number to 9,539.

Statewide last week, four people died from the flu. Thirty-two people have died since Oct. 1 in Maine from the flu. The average of the people who died was 71.

The CDC continues to recommend people wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs and stay home if they are sick as ways to prevent the spread of the flu.

Valerie, I will be posting an article later today, explaining that. The difference is the way, the CDC is classifying the cases.

What happened to the person here in Knox County that we were told had COVID-19?  I see yesterday that there are now 46 cases in Maine (an increase of 14 in one day) but Knox County is not listed as one of the Counties in Maine that has the COVID-19 virus?  Do you know anything about this?  Thanks

Is this because flu cases are actually increasing at a higher rate or that more people are going to the hospital when they otherwise wouldn't because they are worried about COVID-19???
