By Stephen Betts | Mar 15, 2020
Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro and all other RSU 40 schools will be closed through April 17.

Waldoboro — Regional School Unit 40 announced early Sunday afternoon that schools will close through April 17.

The announcement was made through the automated text messaging system of the school system that serves Waldoboro, Warren, Union, Friendship, and Washington.

"All schools in RSU 40 will be closed March 16 through April 17. More information to follow," stated the text message.

The closures of schools across the state are occurring to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Staff will report on Monday, March 16 to continue plans to support students during the closure. Remote learning will be offered. Meals will also be provided to students who want them.

"You can anticipate a gradual rollout of support after a couple days of planning," a statement from RSU 40 Superintendent Steve Nolan stated.

School buildings will be open during the upcoming week, starting March 16 for students to pick up belongings or resources.

The Five-Town Community School District and School Administrative District 28 earlier Sunday announced closure until the end of the April spring break.

Don't go to school, go to your local big box store and help spread the virus.
