Library construction to change traffic patterns

Feb 24, 2020

Rockport — The intersection in front of the Rockport Public Library construction site will be changed beginning Friday, Feb. 28, to allow for reconstruction of the intersection.

The island (known as Weidman Square) that sits at the intersection of Central Street, Union Street and Limerock Street will be removed and concrete barriers will be placed to allow for the intersection work to begin. Traffic will still be allowed to turn left from Union Street onto Russell Street, but the turn will be much sharper and the intersection will be narrowed significantly.

Please drive slowly, be aware of your surroundings and the new traffic pattern. The sidewalk on Union Street from just before Church Street will also be closed to pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians are encouraged to use sidewalks on Summer Street to Main Street. The town appreciates residents' patience as the work continues at the intersection for the next few months.
