From the desk of Pope Memorial Humane Society’s shelter manager, Theresa Gargan:

We have been chosen Best of the Best Charitable Organization for 2019 by our community. It is important to realize best does not mean perfect. Rather, doing the best one can do means realizing there is always room for improvement, room to learn, be open to new ideas and most importantly never be afraid of not being perfect. It has been three years since Pope's organization moved from the humble little red building at 17 Buttermilk Lane to the shiny new facility next door. With that move came many changes and even more growing pains. We would like to thank everyone for helping on this journey and for realizing we have will always continue to do our best for the displaced animals in our care. Without public support, none of this would be possible. It truly is a community effort.

My pet pick of the week might also not be considered perfect but is the best little kitty you might ever meet. Her name is Eyepatch, and she came to us as a tiny kitten with a severe eye infection that left untreated would have taken her life. In the end, the only answer was to remove her eye. Despite all of the pain and medications Miss Eyepatch never missed a beat. This young lady is extremely affectionate, playful and not one bit slowed down by the loss of her eye. Come in and meet Eyepatch and all of the other cats, dogs, guinea pigs and rabbits now calling the shelter home. We bet one of them might end up being your best friend.

On behalf of Eyepatch, we would like to send out a reminder: kitten season is not over. Not only are there kittens available for adoption at the shelter, many more are in foster care and donations of kitten food, both dry and canned, would be much appreciated.

Wish list: canned cat food (pate), canned dog food, Purina kitten chow, Temptation cat treats, paper towels, toilet paper, latex gloves, peanut butter, and gift certificates to Walmart, Staples and other local businesses. Thank you for your support.
