Augusta — New Miramant law supports hemp farmers

A bill introduced by Sen. Dave Miramant, D-Camden, to support Maine hemp farmers was signed into law by Gov. Janet Mills Tuesday, July 2.

The law, LD 1749, “An Act To Amend the State’s Hemp Laws,” creates clarity in the statutes governing this emerging agricultural field. It defines the product, codifies licensing and growing requirements, lists the differences between hemp and marijuana and designates responsible agencies and duties.

LD 1749 will take effect Sept. 19.
