Waldoboro — With playing soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter and softball in the spring for Medomak Valley High School, senior Aubrey Schaeffer’s athletic dance card is undeniably full.

And her prowess on the soccer pitch, in particular, is set to pay dividends for her next season as Schaeffer will play for Division III Thomas College of Waterville in the fall.

In her senior year, Schaeffer helped the fourth-ranked Panthers advance to the Class B North semifinals, where they fell to top-ranked Presque Isle in overtime.

She also was a Class B first-team all-conference selection as a senior and second-team all-conference as a sophomore. Schaeffer was the team’s most valuable player as a sophomore and was an all-academic selection as a senior.

"I am super excited to continue working and improving on the sport that I love," Schaeffer said.

The past two years, Schaeffer scored three goals and added an assist, but coach Bri Morrill said “her stat sheet does not reflect the type of player she is.”

"Aubrey is an extremely versatile player,” said Morrill. “She has the ability to play up front, on the flanks, or centrally as a midfielder or back. No matter what positions she plays, she makes a difference. She is a strong leader on the field and plays with so much intensity. I believe this will allow her to make an instant impact at Thomas."

Morrill said Schaeffer anchored the team defense and “made those who played around her better.”

“She was our go-to player when it came to direct and indirect kicks,” she said. “She served dangerous set pieces to her teammates that led to many goals off restarts. Aubrey will greatly be missed, but am very excited to see her develop and play at the next level."
