Rockland — The State Fire Marshal is investigating an incident in which a small fire was apparently set inside a Lake Avenue home.

The incident occurred Friday morning, Dec. 28, at about 9:30.

Rockland Fire Chief Christopher Whytock said that police and emergency medical staff initially responded to a call about a man at the convenience store at the intersection of Route 17 and Old County Road in Rockland who was bleeding significantly.

Officers tracked a trail of blood from the store to a house at nearby 2 Lake Ave.

When an officer went inside, he found the man still bleeding profusely and a haze of smoke. Items had apparently been set on a floor in the house and lit on fire.

The officer took the items and put them outside in a snowbank. There was little damage to the house.

The man was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where he remained Monday, Dec. 31.
