P.A.W.S. to hold annual “Auction for the Animals" Nov. 29

Nov 09, 2018
Bidders compete at the P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center’s annual auction at the Samoset Resort.

Rockport — Airplane rides, cooking classes with internationally known chefs, tickets to a Broadway musical and box seats at The Metropolitan Opera in New York City are just a few of the more than 200 items in the P.A.W.S. Animal Adoptions Center’s ninth annual “Auction for the Animals.” This year’s event, which takes place Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Samoset Hotel at 220 Warrenton St., in Rockport, begins at 5:30 p.m., and will feature online, silent and live auctions.

The live auction will feature a variety of items to bid on, including the opportunity to be a character in one of David Rosenfelt’s upcoming novels, a private workshop to learn the art of glassblowing, and a chance to win a live Christmas tree covered in lottery tickets. There will be airplane tickets from Cape Air between Rockland and Boston, a biplane ride donated by the Owls Head Transportation Museum and day sails on Penobscot Bay. Also on offer are ski passes for the Camden Snow Bowl and ice skating at Midcoast Recreation Center. Annual memberships to both the Farnsworth Museum and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, as well as movie theater tickets will also be on the auction block. Among the experiences that can be purchased are a culinary class with chef Michael Salmon of Hartstone Inn, and a meal for four to six people cooked by chef Andrea Barbour of 16 Bay View, in the winning bidder’s home.

Bids can be made on over 100 online-only items, beginning Nov. 13 and running through midnight, Dec. 3. Winners will be notified by email and items will be available for pick up at P.A.W.S., starting Wednesday, Dec. 5.
