Hurricane Gallery calls for art of our time

Jul 09, 2018

Waldoboro — Hurricane Gallery invites artists working in all media to submit their work to be considered for its summer 2018 show, which will open Saturday, Aug. 5.

The gallery welcomes not only established artists, but also artists new to the exhibition scene. Gallery owner Robert Macdonald said that though technical skill and depth of feeling are important, he is not especially interested in showing the pretty or picturesque.

“In this age of Trump, I want to show the work of artists who bring their special pictorial skills to confront the present difficult moment in our national life,” he said.

Interested artists may call 701-7477; email; or visit the gallery at 175 Quarry Road, a short distance down Depot Street from Route 1. Hurricane Gallery is almost always open, with work from last summer’s show on view. Of special note are works by Elaine Niemi ("the finest artist of the Midcoast scene,” Macdonald said) including sculpture and constructions.
