The Black Lillies, GoldenOak at Strand

Jun 07, 2018
The Black Lillies

Rockland — Internationally renowned roots rockers The Black Lillies will perform Friday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St. Portland’s indie soul-folk band GoldenOak will open the show.

The Black Lillies will come armed with songs that blur the boundaries between folk, soul, red dirt country, blues and rock, having enthralled audiences at festivals including Bonnaroo Music + Arts, New Orleans Jazz Fest, MerleFest, Stagecoach, CMA Fest & Fan Fair and Pickathon. Equally at home on theater stages and in rock clubs, it was one of the first independent bands to play the Grand Ole Opry and has since returned dozens of times, sharing that stage with big-budget bands and major-label mainstreamers.

After eight years, four albums and more than a thousand shows, The Black Lillies continue to build on their foundation of strong roots rock by creating new lush, layered harmonies and adding a funky edge.

GoldenOak is fronted by sibling duo Zak and Lena Kendall, who began to write music and perform in 2014. Their first album, “Pleasant St.,” solidified the band as ambassadors of the Maine folk scene. Last year, GoldenOak released “Foxgloves,” an EP that builds on Zak and Lena's folk roots with an orchestral approach and earthy sound.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 day of show. To buy tickets or for more information, visit; call 594-0070, ext. 3; or email
