Thomaston — Oceanside Middle School eighth-grader Phoebe Ackor and sixth-grader Aubryn Knowlton are two of the 20 winners of a screen-saver design contest sponsored by the state Department of Education through its Maine Learning Technology Initiative.

Their work was entered, along with designs by several other students, by sixth- through eighth-grade art teacher Sylvia Percy. Statewide, more than 800 pieces of art were submitted, and a total of 20 winners were chosen, Percy said.

As winners, Ackor's and Knowlton's artwork was displayed on the Jumbotron outside the Augusta Civic Center during the 2018 MLTI student conference May 24. Their artwork has also been printed and is exhibited at the Maine Department of Education in Augusta from through Aug. 31.
