Our pet pick of the week is Box Cat, an all-black, neutered male domestic long-haired feline who came into the shelter in mid-March as a stray from St. George. He's a wicked handsome boy who is super-affectionate, loves to be held and enjoys lots of attention. We can't imagine why someone hasn't come looking for him yet. Box Cat is a real joy to be around. Plan on plenty of kisses and head bumps from this sweet boy.

One of his favorite things to do is to play with and curl up in cardboard boxes, thus the name Box Cat. He enjoys time with people, is fine with other cats and won't turn down a yummy treat. He's going to be an awesome companion for that lucky someone. Is that lucky someone you? We have dozens of wonderful cats and dogs, and a handful of small animals at the shelter just waiting to catch the eye and capture the heart of someone who will bring them home to be part of the family. See who is patiently waiting for a home on our website,, or on

Interested in volunteering at the shelter? Learn how at our next volunteer orientation this Saturday, April 7, from 10 to 11 a.m. The shelter needs more than 90 volunteer hours each month to make sure the animals are clean, dry and comfortable, and we’d love to have you join the team!  For more information, contact Volunteer Coordinator Kelly Gould at: 594-2200 or We're also looking for foster families to help us with kitten season. If you are interested in this highly rewarding and crucial volunteering experience, contact Denise or Kelly to learn more.

Save the date: It's back! The ever-popular, always fun Pints for Paws is back, thanks to Loyal Biscuit Co. and Trackside Restaurant. Enjoy live music, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, good times and great friends, all to benefit the animals at Pope Memorial! We hope to see you all there: Trackside Station in Rockland, Sunday, April 29, from noon to 3 p.m.

Wish list: Kitten milk replacement formula, peanut butter (a great frozen treat for the dogs), Temptations cat treats (they're crazy for them), toilet paper, Zip-loc bags (gallon), sponges, wet dog food, wet cat food (poultry pate style), and gift certificates to Walmart, Staples, Amazon and other local businesses. Thanks for your support.
