SPRUCE HEAD — The Craignair Gallery, 5 Third St., invites the public to an opening reception Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. to celebrate the opening of “Fiber Art,” an exhibition by Spruce Head artist Jim Vander Noot.
Vander Noot learned traditional quiltmaking while living in Houston in the late 1980s and subsequently explored new boundaries through experimentation, employing graphic shapes and bold colors in his unique designs inspired by the Maine coast. Many of his works incorporate fused applique accented by dense quilting and threadpainting, using his own dyed and painted fabrics. Indeed, Vander Noot’s works stand out as unusual and unique works of art that engage the imagination of viewers. The artist’s art quilts have appeared in notable exhibitions throughout the United States and in professional publications.
“Fiber Art” is on display for the month of February. The Craignair Gallery is open daily from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, contact innkeeper@craignair.com or visit craignair.com/gallery.
