The number of homes sold in Knox County during 2022 was down sharply from the previous year but the prices continue to escalate.

The median price of single-family homes sold in Knox County during 2022 was $390,000, an increase of 13 percent from the $344,000 in 2021. The median price in 2020 was $268,250 and in 2019 was $236,125.

The number of sales, however, fell to their lowest number in the past several years. There were 552 sales in Knox County during 2022, down 26 percent from the record 742 sales in 2021. In 2020, the sales totaled 694. In 2019,  sales totaled 562 and in 2018 totaled 617.

The median price in 2022 in Knox County of $390,000 was more than the statewide level of $335,000. Median prices ranged from a high of $491,000 in Cumberland County and a low of $148,800 in Aroostook County.

“Overall, the numbers reflect the impact of mortgage rate increases, the typical fourth-quarter seasonal slowdown and a continued shortage of for-sale housing inventory,” Carmen McPhail, 2023 President of the Maine Association of Realtors and an associate broker at family-owned United Country Lifestyle Properties of Maine, with offices in Lincoln, Bangor and Lubec said in a Jan. 20 news release.
